Reflections on Inspiring Campus Space Vitality - A Case Study of the Northern Building of the School of Architecture, Including the Surrounding Area of the School Hospital
Abstract
This paper, through an investigation of the area surrounding the Northern Building of the School of Architecture and the interior spaces of the Northern Building at Tianjin University, summarizes its role in serving as a teaching facility for the college and its positioning in relation to the functions of the hospital. Additionally, the paper, drawing upon analyses and references from similar cases both in China and abroad, primarily explores the Northern Building's potential as a paradigm of open public spaces within the university. It examines the diversification of functions in the area around the school hospital and the Northern Building, interactions with people, feedback from users, and the future possibilities for utilization. The research is conducted through on-site visits and questionnaire surveys to explore the spirit and design concepts conferred by land planning, thereby inspiring vitality in this area and better meeting the needs of users. [1] Moreover, this paper, drawing on theories from environmental psychology and behavioral science, takes a user-centric perspective to explore the spatial aspects of the research area.
