Interpretation Strategies of Diplomatic Interpretation with the Support of the Perspective of Skopos Theory
Abstract
As the gradually accelerated internationalization and the increasingly active attitude toward globalization, diplomacy plays a role of greater significance nowadays. Therefore, diplomatic interpretation becomes more and more valued as a path to exchange culture, economy, and political opinions and topics of many other fields. For a better environment of diplomacy with countries all over the world and to improve China’s national image, the interpreter takes the responsibility for cultivating and improving his/her ability of diplomatic interpretation. To achieve the aforementioned goal, this paper expounds on the features of diplomatic interpretation the interpretation strategies of diplomatic interpretation. So as to expound it more well-founded, Skopos Theory is introduced as the cornerstone of the interpretation strategies. The theory includes three rules: Skopos Rule, the Coherence Rule and the Fidelity Rule. Besides the part of the theory, this paper lists six examples excerpted from the transcripts of diplomatic interpretation of formal diplomatic occasions and official diplomatic events so as to expound the specific methods and skills in practice as well, which interpreter has the necessity to use these interpretation strategies with flexibility.
