Abstract

Nowadays, the development of clothing tends to be diversified, and the concept of gender is constantly blurred in fashion design. Exploring the development trend of contemporary clothing in order to better meet the consumption demand of modern clothing, is the focus designers need to pay attention to. This paper uses the literature research method and case analysis method to discuss gender ambiguity in fashion and analyzes the reasons for the formation of gender ambiguity in clothing, its evolution stage, and the characteristics of clothing. It is found that the development of the economy and society and the change of productive roles of men and women during the war led to the formation of gender ambiguity. The development and evolution of the gender characteristics of clothing roughly went through three stages, which were reflected in the period of strengthening the gender characteristics, the period of weakening the gender characteristics, and the non-sexist style. The characteristics of the sexist type are mainly reflected in color, silhouette, and fabric. This study has guiding significance for today’s fashion design.
