From Life to Page—A Cross-cultural Exploration of the Influence of Personal Experiences on Sylvia Plath and Eileen Chang's Works

Abstract

Sylvia Plath and Eileen Chang were two influential female writers of the 20th century. Born and raised in different cultural backgrounds, they expressed unique personal and cultural perspectives in their work while exploring their inner mentalities and societal influences from childhood to adulthood. Their literary works not only reflect shared challenges faced by women in the 20th century but also serve as a bridge connecting personal perception and societal impact, leading to the development of a distinctive counter-traditional style of literary expression. This exploration deepened understanding of how similarities and differences among writers contributed to a richer knowledge of each author's work and provided a broader view of shared human experiences across cultures.
