Research on the Impact of Editing Techniques and Camera Movement on Narrative Rhythm and Their Shaping Role
Abstract
Rhythm is a pivotal component of film narrative that affects the level of audience engagement and emotional responses. This article uses the movie "La La Land" as an example to show how editing and camera movement may change the pace of a story. The research shows that the script establishes the fundamental rhythm, whilst editing and camera movement shape the ultimate manifestation of the narrative rhythm through technical methods. By integrating theoretical frameworks with in-depth case analysis, this study examines the narrative logic underlying editing decisions and the rhythmic functions of camera movement, clarifying how these two elements collaborate to regulate emotional beats and narrative tempo. The research conclusion indicates that the high coordination of editing and camera movement not only improves the fluidity of the narrative rhythm but also intensifies the emotional tension of the film, offering practical insights for future filmmaking practices.
