Jade Objects Buried with the Tombs and the Tomb Hierarchy of Yue Nobles in Zhejiang During the Late Spring and Autumn Period to the Early Warring States Period
Abstract
In the late Spring and Autumn Period to the early Warring States Period, an era rife with transgression of ritual norms, the number of dragon-shaped jade huang pendants and dragon-shaped jade pendants unearthed from Tomb D14M5 at Longba in Anji exceeded those found in the second-rank tombs. However, from the three perspectives of local jade burial systems, other burial artifacts, and the jade objects themselves, this numerical superiority cannot be defined as a transgression of ritual hierarchy. It is inferred that the discrepancy between the hierarchy reflected by the buried jade objects and the hierarchy indicated by the tomb structure may be related to the prominent wealth attribute of jade objects under the custom of extravagant burials.
